Improving Public Places in Ilfracombe
Here’s some news hot off the press for some enhancements works we are involved in at two sites in Ilfracombe for North Devon Council. As a award winning architects providing full architectural, building design and planning services. Based in our studios in Barnstaple, Exeter in Devon and Truro Cornwall, we work on a wide variety of projects across the South West. The two projects in Ilfracombe are related; the first entails removing the two toll booths at the entrance to the Pier, the desire being to open up that approach and make the area more pedestrian friendly. As part of that, we have designed a new sculpture to support the existing harbour clock. This will take the form of a copper clad arch, evoking fishy tails and scales. Its hoped the sculpture will help announce the entrance to the Pier which may in turn have some enhancement works further down the line.
The second project involves relocating the two toll booths at the eastern end of Victoria Pleasure gardens, (the area in front of where the old Pavillion was). This will have two aspects; firstly it will frame the approach to the gardens from the harbour area and secondly, it will allow a small cafe / rest area to be created, (with one of the booths being re-used as a servery).
So, small steps towards improving and enhancing Ilfracombe for the benefit of locals and visitors alike!
