Planning permission for 16 country homes
Another recent success for North Devon architects Peregrine Mears Architects is obtaining planning permission for a select development of just 16 homes in a delightful countryside setting, at Meadow Rise Burrington N Devon.
Design
“Attention to design and detail has guided every step.” explained Perry Mears. “Finding the right layout, form and feel for a housing development requires a thorough understanding of the site and context. What is the local vernacular? Building forms and materials? What characteristics are common to buildings in the vicinity? Also what does the site tell us i.e. aspect, prospect, sun path, climate, topography, natural features? Blending that analysis with a well thought out brief paves the way for a successful development, one which ultimately fits the setting and surroundings.
The aim is to create “comfortable country living” so good quality homes and a development that has a sense of character and place. So the 12 open market homes are arranged around a village green with pond, (a drainage feature but also something that will encourage wildlife / biodiversity). The emphasis is on space, both as a whole and in terms of the individual properties – all have much larger gardens than typical housing developments. We feel that the scheme will be attractive to buyers in the current post Covid world. All the open market homes will have the option to have an office building in the garden, (an optional extra), to allow for home working. The homes will be to a high environmental standard and specification, to give excellent thermal performance and eco / green elements including EV charging low running costs. The fabulous, picturesque North Devon countryside surrounds, located about 12 miles from Barnstaple, Bideford and South Molton, with the amenities of Chulmleigh and High Bickington each about 4 miles away with schools, shops, pubs and golf course and driving range.
